The Ultimate and Absolute comics continue to slap, and I’m enjoying One World Under Doom.

Ultimate Spider-Man #15 the series is consistently excellent, not much else to say.

Ultimate Wolverine #3 this series came barreling out of the gate, and keeps that energy up. Looking forward to where it goes next.

Absolute Wonder Woman #6 this continues to be my favorite of the Absolute line, and just plain rocks. Love the mythology.

Absolute Martian Manhunter #1 well this is a super strong start, can’t wait for the next issue. The strange art style is a perfect match with the story.

Fantastic Four #30 😭😭😭

Doom Academy #2 I’m enjoying this series well enough. I’ll probably go back and read Strange Academy sometime, the pre-One World Under Doom series this transitioned from.

Red Hulk #2 it’s fine I guess. Another One Word Under Doom tie-in series.

Thunderbolts: Doomstrike #2 another OWUD tie-in series. I only vaguely know these characters, it’s fine.

Doom’s Division #1 yet another OWUD tie-in. I know nothing about Tiger Division, but apparently it’s where Luna Snow (who I know from the Marvel Rivals game) is from.

Godzilla vs. Fantastic Four #1 this one-shot was a fun ride. Period piece set back after the original movie, with King Ghidorah as Galactus’s Herald. Ryan North is good at comics. Hopefully next month’s Godzilla vs Hulk is as good!

I’m back, and some brief comics thoughts

Going to try and get back to posting again, some irl stuff came up that derailed things in general, on top of sleep and fatigue being worse than usual. One thing I want to do soon is start writing more about the Playdate games I’ve been playing.

Anyway, tonight I started catching up on comics, after not reading any for a month or two. The Ultimate Marvel stuff continues to be great. The end of Ultimate Spider-Man #12 was a major HOLY SHIT moment. Fantastic Four is good, Ryan North is good at comics. I also got caught up on the Absolute DC comics. Absolute Wonder Woman kind of rocks hard. And I’d say Absolute Batman is the weakest of the three, with Absolute Superman between them. Tomorrow hopefully I can read the new ongoing Star Trek: Lower Decks series, and also maybe finally finish the Lower Decks CYOA comic. I’m so sad the show is over, but at least we have Ryan North doing the comics, which again he is very good at.

Ultimate Spider-Man 10

Ultimate Spider-Man continues to be fucking excellent. I just read the new issue 10, and it’s so good. Marvel has really been knocking it out of the park with their new Ultimate Universe.

They currently have Ultimate Spider-Man, Ultimate Black Panther, Ultimate X-Men, and The Ultimates going, which means each week has a new issue of one of the series. They also take place in “real time”, so a month has passed between each issue of a particular series.

They just announced Ultimate Wolverine for January, so I’m curious if one of the series will be ended by then for it to fill the slot, if it means some weeks will have 2 different Ultimate series issues, or I supposed they could extend the time between each issue by an additional week to fit… Anyway, whatever happens, I’m here for it.

Absolute Batman #1

I haven’t read any mainline DC comics in a long time, but I was morbidly curious about the new Absolute Universe that just started. It’s kind of like the original Ultimate Marvel universe, where it’s a new continuity with edgy remixes of the characters. While there were a few bright spots (Ultimate Spider-Man especially), overall the first Ultimate Marvel stuff was, uh, kinda garbage. The new unrelated Ultimate Marvel universe that’s running right now slaps, though.

Anyway, Absolute Batman #1 came out yesterday, so I decided to check it out. I already thought the extremely chunky bat logo was ridiculous, and then this happened. I don’t even know how to react to this. Anyway, comic was interesting; very 90s edgy vibes, but at least somewhat better written than a lot of that was. I’ll probably keep reading, along with the other upcoming Absolute comics, at least for a while, just to see where it goes, but I don’t expect them to be great.
